Born 1997 in Jerusalem, Ariel Lanyi has been playing the piano since the age of four. He has performed in Paris, New York, Los Angeles, Houston and Miami, and been the subject of documentaries around the world, including ITV’s ‘Superhuman: Genius’. Ariel made his first orchestral appearance at age seven and has since performed as a soloist with string ensembles and orchestras across Israel. He is currently a student at the Conservatory of the Jerusalem Academy of Music where he studies piano, violin, conducting and composition. Ariel plays violin in the Conservatory's orchestra and participates in several chamber ensembles, both as pianist and violinist. He also enjoys playing jazz and improvised music.
In March 2011, under an invitation from Belfast cultural organisation Jews Schmooze, Ariel visited Ireland to perform Irish drummer/composer David Lyttle’s ‘Chronicles Suite’ alongside young Slovak jazz guitarist Andreas Varady. He returned to Ireland in July 2011 to perform in the Sligo Jazz Festival’s ‘Jazz Apprentices’ ensemble, under the mentorship of David and US saxophone legend Jean Toussaint.
‘Romantic Profiles’ is Ariel Lanyi’s debut solo classical piano album, and is released on David Lyttle’s Lyte Records label. Featuring Romantic works by Schumann, Liszt , Brahams and Janáček, it introduces Ariel to a worldwide classical audience and documents the first professional steps of this young star of the piano.
